As
a boy, I endured the tragic loss of my father. When it came to the finality
of his death, I was left not knowing what to do to overcome such an overwhelming
void in my life. I was plagued with thoughts of how would I become a man
and what kind of man would I become? I attached myself to good men who
were wonderful role models. However, my search to find my place in life
did not take shape until my acquaintance with the local church.
Following behind a good friend to Sunday school, I met the Lord. I never
imagined while looking for other good men that I would find the perfect
man–both
God and man in human flesh. I accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as my Savior
at the age of 16. In all my relationships and tasks in life I ask, “How
can I allow Jesus to work through me?”
It is an honor to be a part of the NHC family and to be considered to serve
on the Elder Leadership Team. My wife, Yende, and I have
five children, Jalia,
Ayana, Spencer, Anelisa and Zariya.
Steve Eckholm

In his goodness, God blessed me with godly parents and a childhood home
that was centered on him and his Church. It was through the ministry of Vacation
Bible School that I came to ask my mom to help me accept Christ as my savior
and then as a young teen to be baptized in that same church.
In his goodness God brought me to New Hope Church over 20 years ago. NHC’s
strong biblical teaching and commitment to stand for God’s truth
continue to encourage me. The NHC family has ministered to me in countless
ways over the years as I have interacted with others who are part of such
areas as single adults, ushering, technical ministries, music and worship.
A church family, like our own families, is not perfect, but one who knows
a great and good God.
“Your goodness is so great! You have stored up great blessings
for those who honor you. You have done so much for those who come to
you for protection, blessing them before the watching world” Psalm
31:19.
Greg Peterson

“Great is God’s faithfulness” is the thread that goes
through my life. He was faithful to give me a Christian home and to provide
a way of salvation from the penalty of sin through His son Jesus. All that
was required of me was to repent of my sins and live in faith knowing that
the work of Jesus on the cross is sufficient for my salvation.
God has been faithful through times of serious illness and has given me
a season to serve at New Hope Church as the Director of Ushering Ministries.
I have also been blessed to be a part of the Gideon ministry and as a leader
in Bible Study Fellowship. I have been married to Sandy for 32 years and
we have two grown sons, Jim and Scott.
I feel blessed to be considered to serve on the Elder Leadership Team of a
church that is called to serve God by serving our community in his name.

I grew up in a Christian home and when I was in the third grade my dad explained
the plan of salvation. That evening I prayed with my parents to accept Christ
as my Savior.
During college I found myself making decisions about how I should live out
my faith. God provided opportunity through Campus Ambassadors for leadership
training, to be an example to non-Christians, and have a core group of Christian
friends while in a secular setting.
In the late 90s Laurie and I began attending NHC. I have had the opportunity
to attend Homebuilders, to work in Awana (Sparks and T&T) and to coach
basketball. Laurie and I are blessed with two beautiful daughters, Kailee
and Marissa.
I have had many crisis experiences during which my faith has grown, yet I know
I must continue to grow in my walk with Him. God has made himself real to my
family numerous times as we have seen him work in our lives and in the lives
of other believers.
Ratification of Elder Appointment
Roger Mehrer

The Lord placed me in a Christian family committed to serving him and
I accepted Jesus Christ as my personal Savior when I was nine years old.
As a young man I learned the story of King Solomon asking God for wisdom.
That prayer continues for me today, “That the Lord may grant me
wisdom, that he may light my path, and that I may always keep my eyes
on the Cross.”
The Lord has called me to serve in various capacities here at NHC including
Junior High Ministries, Marriage Coaching, the Finance Committee and
the Elder Leadership Team. Colleen and I have been married 29 years and
have two sons, Phil (married to Sara) and David.
My favorite verses are Philippians 4:6-7: “Do not be anxious about
anything, but with prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your
request to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding,
will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus."
