Short-term Missions

Can I share my heart with you? My name is Donna Janes. My husband, Herb, and
I are empty-nesters. Prior to five years ago, I had never stepped foot out
of the country. The idea of passports, shots and everything that foreign travel
entailed was a bit daunting. And so, the thought of participating in a mission
trip was not even on my radar. All those worries, fears and shortcomings came
to the surface when my husband proposed that we join the 2003 China missions

The Sucker Story
There were many stories told by a summer 2008 missions team that went to the
Dominican Republic, but one stood out most. Just three years old, this
was Betty’s first missions trip. Being the adorable and precocious girl
she was, she drew a lot of attention everywhere she went. At one point, a woman
they met gave Betty five pesos which thoroughly thrilled her. Unlike many adults,
Betty didn’t keep her enthusiasm in check and she was now the only one

The Robbins Family Adventure
The Robbins family made the most of their summer last year by going on an adventure. This NHC family of five went to Poland to help at a week-long English camp through a partnering Evangelical Free Church. While there, Brent and Kristin saw their three young daughters share their faith and grow in their understanding of other cultures. And the family grew together spiritually as they served others. I Met Jesus Today
I met Jesus today. Her name was Alida. She was wearing a stained red shirt and faded, dirt-caked jeans. I was walking to a small village called Chicoman in Guatemala when I saw her. She had a bundle of rough chopped wood held together by a piece of torn cloth under her arm. She was trying to drag a tree limb that was four times longer than she was tall. I said “hola,” she turned to me and returned the greeting. My heart melted. I grabbed the limb and offered to carry her burden up the hill. She just smiled brightly, nodded and we started up the hill. Read more>>
