The HopeBridge Food Shelf seeks to serve many people each week. It is open eight hours each week with many volunteers needed every week in order for it to be a success! Some volunteers are needed behind the scenes while others will have the opportunity to work with the clients directly. Listed below are brief descriptions of the ways to be a part of the Food Shelf! The Food Shelf Volunteer Role Descriptions
Behind the scenes
Volunteer Coordinator (5-10 hours per month)
Schedules
volunteers, tracks availability of volunteers, publicizes when
additional volunteers are needed, trains new volunteers, fills volunteer slots
when needed, oversees and models the relationship
building goal of volunteer/client contact.
Works also with
Food Ordering and Inventory Management Coordinators to dispatch volunteers
to purchase needed food inventory.
Prayer Coordinator (3-5 hours per week)
Arranges
overall prayer cover for The Food Shelf, volunteers and clients. Coordinates
an on-site prayer volunteer to be available during The Food Shelf open hours
to pray with clients as requested and to pray with volunteers at the beginning
of each shift. Also coordinates off-site prayer volunteers to pray throughout the week.
Inventory Management Coordinator (2-3 hours per week)
Tracks non-food items, such as grocery bags, Christian literature, Bibles, evangelistic brochures, church event publicity and church information cards. Checks food supply and arranges for proper disposal
of unused food items. Works with Food Ordering Coordinator to maintain food supplies. Organize and restock the shelves throughout the week.
Shift Servants
Food Shelf Supervisors
Coordinating the overall operation of The Food Shelf during the open hours.
• First shift responsibilities include opening up, checking in volunteers, greeting incoming clients, maintaining the physical order and cleanliness of the food shelf, overseeing the volunteers, troubleshooting as needed. Reports salvation decisions to the HopeBridge Director. Meet with second shift supervisor for a smooth transition.
• Second shift responsibilities include all of all of the above, except for opening up. This supervisor closes up at the end of the shift.
Intake Workers
Facilitates first time client registration and repeat client check-in. Once intake is completed, assists client with non-perishable food shopping. Continues to build relationships with the client and seeks to understand other areas the client needs assistantance. Refers to Love INC if needs exists outside of current New Hope Church ministries.
Food Packagers
Fills client food orders from the freezers, refrigerator, and produce
table.
Recreation Room Workers
Sets up and maintains refreshments, monitors recreation room during the shopping time, and facilitates kid activities.
Volunteer Shifts
Thursdays: 3:30 p.m.-6:15 p.m. and 5:45 p.m.-8:30 p.m.
Saturdays: 9:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m. and 11:45 a.m.-2:30 p.m.
Volunteer Requirements
- Attend HopeBridge Volunteer Training.
- Attend the HopeBridge Food Shelf Orientation.
- Make New Hope Church your regular place of worship.
- Be a senior high student or older (unless accompanied by a parent).
- Commit to serving at least six hours per month for a six-month service period.
