"Moments for Singles" (©2004 NavPress)
This book by Leigh McLeroy is a wonderfully honest encouragement to single
adults. The author shares her journey to discovering that "the happiest,
most satisfied men and women are not defined by the presence or absence of
a mate. They are defined by their relationship with God.
"God has specially gifted each of us who belongs to Him, and He means
for us to use those gifts–regardless of our marital status. I was
going to fully exercise my gifts of writing and teaching when I could retire
from my nine-to-five career and focus on my family and ministry. But if
I had stubbornly refused to alter that self-made plan, I'd be waiting to
do both. If I had decided to wait until I was married to entertain friends
or travel or inveset myself in the lives of children, I would be a very
shallow, very immature person indeed! And if I had determined to wait for
a husband to feed and lead me spiritually, I'd still be a baby in the things
of faith." - Leigh McLeroy, page 84
"LifeWay-Biblical Solutions for Life"

Carolyn McCulley
This gifted author and speaker offers a wonderfully personal and insightful
view on singleness. She says, "As I began to study and consider these
passages [in Titus 2], I realized as a single woman I was not some weird,
hybrid gender in the church. I had commands from the Lord that I needed to
cultivate for my good and His glory as an unmarried woman." Carolyn
offers words of dignity, respect and joy to single adults. You'll be encouraged
and inpired by her website, blog and
other writing.

Questions
on the Single Life
How many times has someone tried to set you up on a date so you could find "your
other half"? Or kept making comments about how lonely you must be by yourself?
God knows how you feel on your good days and your bad days. Through His Word,
He offers practical insight for making your life tremendously satisfying and
fulfilling right now. Christianity
Today offers some great biblical perspective on being single in a world
that often seems to cater to being married.
Perspective on Single Adult Life
“Cheryl Forbes illustrates how she and other single women and
men have been inspired by the ‘wideness’ of Jesus’ single life: ‘Jesus
is the example to follow. He was single. He was born to serve...He had deep friendships
among all sorts of people–men, women, single, married. That was His work,
an intimate part of His ultimate mission of dying on the cross for our sins…His
relationships with Mary, Martha, Peter and the other disciples allowed Him to
be interrupted by needy children, distraught fathers, hungry men and sick women…Jesus
sought to make Himself vulnerable.” (John Piper, “Recovering
Biblical Manhood and Womanhood;” Crossway Books; Wheaton Illinois; ©1991;
pg. 19)
