Shoulder to Shoulder: LifeSkills Course

Next Course TBD

Enter into significant life-changing ministry by helping others get through difficult life experiences. Today's culture can be brutal. Its casualties need the strength of the Lord administered through people like you. Offer a shoulder to lean on as they progress on the journey into the peace and joy of restoration in Christ. Through the brief LifeSkills course, you'll be equipped to mentor an individual for a designated period of time. These “life skills” can also help to enhance your personal relationships, such as family, friends and co-workers.

The LifeSkills courses train and prepare you to become a Mentor, then NHC's Shoulder to Shoulder Ministry can match you up with someone struggling in life. Some examples include coming alongside the spouse of an incarcerated prisoner, a spouse who needs individual mentoring while going through marriage coaching, someone recently incarcerated (to assure that his or her Christian walk progresses), someone in recovery from addictions who has chosen to make New Hope Church their church home, or someone who is simply going through a trying season of life and need a listening ear.

The vision of this ministry is to assist in the restoration and recovery of those struggling under life's challenges by praying, listening, encouraging, and helping them consider alternatives. Our mission is to partner with others in becoming all that God intends for them, so that they can move forward with joy for an eternity with him.

In this course, you can build your skills and further enhance your gift of encouragement. Our course uses the book "A Trusted Friend" by Dr. Tim Clinton and Pat Springle. Basic curriculum outline includes:

Caring For Hurting People
The privilege of being used by God. Biblical basis, foundational principles and characteristics of trusted friends.

Becoming a Great Listener

Providing Referral Sources
