fu•sion. \fyü-zhën\: a merging of diverse, distinct, or separate elements into a unified whole. So, what is it that we're trying to “fuse”? We have a vision to see you fused to Jesus. This is our passion and obsession. We deeply value the cultivation of men and women who are united to Christ by trusting and treasuring him and learning to live in his Way. But this union cannot be fostered and strengthened in a void... For this reason we have a vision to see people fused to people. We deeply value the cultivation of community, because we know that it is in community that people best grow, are best driven toward Christ, and are best nurtured, encouraged and cared for. But we also desire to be an outward-faced community–a missional community, which is why we value service and compassion toward our local community, neighborhoods and city. You’ve heard that it takes a village to raise a child. Well, it takes a community to form a God-entranced disciple of Christ. But formation requires the right tool... For this reason we have a vision to fuse God’s Word to people’s hearts, minds and affections. Trusting and treasuring Jesus and walking in his Way requires a knowledge of his way. So, in our worship gatherings and other community settings we value the unashamed proclamation of the Word of God in Scripture. A flimsy commitment to the truth generates nothing but flimsy disciples. So, we seek to apply the Word powerfully and practically. However, we don’t live in the world of the Bible... For this reason we have a vision to fuse a biblical worldview to cultural engagement. Jesus insisted that his followers be “in the world but not of the world.” Most Christians fall off onto one side, either becoming so insulated by the church and by Christian community that they are unable to function as a counter-cultural missionary in and to the culture, or they so identify with the culture and accept its values and priorities that their commitment to Christ’s values and priorities dwindles. We want to find a balance—a fusion—that allows us to understand our culture and speak powerfully into it for Christ and his Kingdom. But this is not something that can be undertaken by the weak and immature... For this reason we have a vision to fuse depth and breadth. We want to grow. We want to see our community expand. But we value even more deeply the cultivation of disciples who are holistic and mature, wise and committed. We want our gatherings to be welcoming and accessible to anyone, but also focused on helping disciples to grow deep, strong roots rather than on making our gatherings merely entertaining or fashionable. We have a vision to be a humbly and historically orthodox, biblical, passionate, missional, outward-faced, inwardly nurturing community of disciples of Christ, who live, walk and believe as God has shown us in his Word.
